NWTS Day

When is National Wet T Shirt Day and how and when did it get started?

National Wet T-Shirt Day originally conceived and launched in the UK by Dave Wild (owner of Miss We And Wild) in 2019. It’s now observed annually on May 24th throughout the world! It’s promoted by ourselves, Miss Wet And Wild, Mr Wet And Wild, Miss Wet T Shirt and other UK-based companies.

National Wet T Shirt Day – has been consistently referenced since 2019, with notable mentions every year since on social media platforms like X, Facebook & Instagram, indicating its recognition as a global event as it’s now become on May 24th. The day gained traction through social media and online communities, with peak mentions recorded on May 24, 2019, suggesting quite rightly that it had become an internet sensation by then.

Modern Celebration and Evolution

Today, National Wet T-Shirt Day is celebrated in various ways, from playful water activities like water gun fights and slip ‘n’ slides to organised wet T-shirt competitions, such as those promoted by us, which has in the past included online contests requiring participants to submit photos or videos wearing official MWAW event T-shirts.

The day has also been linked to broader themes, such as water conservation, with some sources noting its coincidence with World Water Day (though this is typically March 22nd, not May 24th, suggesting possible conflation in some narratives).

The celebration has evolved to emphasize consent, inclusivity, and body positivity, reflecting changing societal norms. While still tied to its risqué origins, modern interpretations often focus on fun, creative expressions rather than objectification, with events depicted in music videos, artistic photo shoots, and consensual party settings.

In Summery

To this day, National Wet T Shirt Day persists as a quirky, niche celebration embraced by every for its playful spirit and cultural significance.
